Our Churches

Nenagh Union has three churches in it, each of which was originally the parish church of an independent parish.

Nenagh Union is centred on St Mary's Nenagh and also comprises Killodiernan Church in Puckane to the North and Templederry Church to the Southeast.

St Mary's Nenagh was consecrated in 1860 to replace an earlier parish church closer to the centre of the town. When originally constructed, it was the only church on Church Road until the neighbouring and much larger Roman Catholic parish church, St Mary of the Rosary was built beside it.

Services are normally held here on every Sunday at 11 am and every Wednesday at 11 am.

Killodiernan Church, just north of the village of Puckane was built in 1811 and is a charming country church. One of its more unusual claims to fame is that it was used as a location for a film which starred a young and rather unknown actor called Cillian Murphy.

Services are normally held here on The Second and Fourth Sundays of the month at 12.15 pm.

In addition the Dispersed Community of St Brendan the Navigator meets here on the Monday before the Second Tuesday of the month at 11 am and everyone is welcome to attend this service.

Templederry Church in the hills to the south of Nenagh is a fine example of an unusual country church dating from 1825, whose gallery is accessed not from the inside as normal, but via exterior steps.

Services are normally held here on the First Sunday of the month at 9.30 am and the Saturday before the Third Sunday at 7 pm.
